Laurel and I were on a vacation with her parents. We travelled to Isle of Palms, South Carolina and stayed in a beachfront rental house for the week. On a particularly hot and muggy day, we and the family visited Cypress Gardens, a park/swamp and alligator sanctuary just on the outskirts of Charleston.
After a brief tour of the butterfly house, we boarded a flat bottomed boat for a slow paddle around the swamp. It was only toward the end of the journey, tired and sweaty and disappointed in the lack of wildlife, that we spotted a rather pointy log about 10 meters away. The log moved, and I rushed to focus my camera. I captured these photographs.
